Repair Microwave Over Door Lock

Depending on the model involved the panels may be held in place with screws from the inside bottom or sides.

If the door hook is broken it won t relea se the door properly preventing the door from opening. Use caution as the outer glass door may be heavy. Unplug the unit and remove the inner and outer door panels to access the torsion springs that are located at the bottom front of the door. The reason for the interlock is to prevent operation of the microwave and the resulting generation of microwave radiation while the door is open.

If the door hook is broken replace it. If you misadjust the switch the unit may start with the door not completely sealed. I would not risk trying to adjust repair or bypass the switch. The door hook engages with the door latch to keep the door closed during operation.

Locate and remove the one philips screw that holds the control panel in place. Since the door hook is made of plastic it can break due to regular wear. Remove two philips screws that hold the grill in place on top of the microwave. It will be found behind the inner door panel.
