To fix door handles that are loose you may be able to simply tighten the connections that have begun to wane.
Repair door handle lock.
Release the tab or button.
Inspect the insides of each handle making sure both move when the handle is lowered.
Tap the end of a chisel under the door stop on the striker side of the jamb.
Set the interior knob or handle aside for reuse.
This type is found commonly on lever style door handles.
Remove the door rose by inserting a small screwdriver into the small notch in the rose and twisting the tool to pop it off.
Use the chisel to remove the door stop.

If it won t lock open the door.
Make sure the square metal rod running through the mechanism turns the latch mechanism.
Tighten the hinge screws and then try adjusting the strike plate by loosening its screws and shifting it slightly.
Remove the screws on the inside door handle and pull both handles off the door at the same time.
Using an awl or small screwdriver push the button in all the way and at the same time pull off the handle.
Repairs range from making minor latch adjustments to repositioning the door.
To depress the detent use the end of a metal paper clip or the point of an awl inserting it into the hole and pressing the detent down while twisting and removing the door handle shaft off the spindle.
Door lock doesn t latch properly when a door latch doesn t click into position it usually means the latch and the strike plate are out of alignment.
Remove the inside doorknob by locating the button like our model metal tab or wire clip on the side of the knob that acts as a release.
Pry up on it until it comes loose and remove it.
The fix in instances with a door latch stuck because it is jammed by rust and other materials it is always best to disassemble the lock and do a bit of cleaning.
Letting the components sit fully submerged in a vinegar of about 5 acidity will do the job of separating the gunk from your metal.
Step 2 insert the narrow tip of the cylinder lock removal tool available from weiser into the end of the long cylindrical shaft protruding from the center of the handle mechanism.
Pull the exterior half of the handle from the door with the lock cylinder inside.
