Removing old front door locks.
Undo the two mounting screws holding the doorknob in place.
Remove these screws if your door knob has visible screws your job will be easy.
If there is paint on the lock face then when you remove the mechanism the paint may stick to the lock face and peal off the wood of the door.
Push the tip of a narrow screwdriver into the hole.
Examine the shank of the doorknob for a narrow slit when there are no visible mounting screws on the faceplate.

You should see a tiny slot or hole.
Replacing the new lock is simply a matter of reversing the process and is sometimes a little more difficult to do.
Both doorknobs should come loose from the door when you remove the screws.
First remove the old door lock by unscrewing the doorknob on the inside of the door.

Step 2 remove the old lock.
Before you remove the lock mechanism from the door you may want to score the gap around the lock front with a razor to free any paint that may be attached to the metal.
Press this wire with your screwdriver to release the interior half of the lock then pull the exterior half off by hand.
Slip a screwdriver in to release the knob which will expose a length of wire wrapped around the remaining trim.
Grab that phillips head.
The screws may be obscured by the door handle so you may need to turn the handle to reach the screws.
Removing locks from the exterior side.
Noticing how the old lock comes apart and making sure you seat the bolts in the holes when replacing the lock will make the replacement easier.
Tug on the knob and it will slide right off.
Remove the door knobs once you ve unscrewed those screws you should be able to simply remove the interior and.
Locate the hole underneath the doorknob shaft.
Insert the new spring.
Check for small notches or depressions in very old door knobs.
